    Karen began her teaching career in 1998 in Delta and has taught a variety of subjects including Advanced Placement English, Social Studies, and History. Most recently, she was Counselling Department Head and Coordinator of Inquiry at North Delta Secondary School. Karen has a Bachelors degree in Education and a Masters of Education Degree in Counselling Psychology, both from the University of Victoria. Her varied interests include a love of travel. A resident of Delta herself, Karen is proud of all that the community has to offer. She also takes pride in the Delta School District and the opportunities it offers students to grow not only academically, but in areas such as the arts, athletics, leadership, service, and social and global awareness and responsibility. Karen is a caring and enthusiastic educator who looks forward to supporting international students as they develop into tomorrow's successful and responsible citizens, scholars and leaders.

    Claire has been an educator in Delta since 2004. She enjoyed working as a classroom teacher, ELL specialist, Teacher-Librarian, Vice-Principal, and Summer School Principal before joining International Student Programs. She has traveled extensively throughout the world, and began her teaching career in Taipei, Taiwan. Claire holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, a Bachelor of Education degree, a Master’s degree in Children’s Literature, and a certificate in Transformative Educational Leadership, all from the University of British Columbia. She is proud of the variety of programming offered in Delta, having worked in Montessori and French Immersion Delta Schools. She is committed to helping students achieve academic excellence as well as positive cultural experiences during their time in Delta.

    Bob began his teaching career in 1999 in Delta and has taught at both the Secondary and Elementary school levels. In 2006, Bob became an Elementary Vice-Principal and has since been a Principal at three different Elementary schools in Delta – most recently at Holly Elementary. Bob has a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Masters of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of British Columbia. His varied interests include a love of travel and the Arts. Bob has been a resident of Delta since 1983 and is proud to be raising his family in the community. He takes great pride in the Delta School District and its ongoing focus on ensuring student success for all of its students. Bob is an enthusiastic, dedicated, and caring educator. He is looking forward to supporting International Students in their personal educational journeys as they grow into tomorrow’s leaders, citizens, and innovators.

    Israel Aucca is the marketing manager for international programs. He has been working in the education sector for more than 15 years. He has experience working overseas in Asia and South America, as well as in Canada, as a teacher, counsellor, coordinator, and also as an education-marketing specialist. Israel has an extensive knowledge of developing current marketing strategies for the education sector. As a fluent speaker in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese he understands different cultures. Israel is always available to assist and welcome educational agents as well as educational partners. He can also guide new students and parents.

    District Coordinator - Elementary Student Support

    Corrine first became interested in languages and cultures when she participated in a summer exchange program to Japan as a high school student. She became a teacher in 1991, completing her B.Ed and M.Ed at UBC. She has been a learning assistance teacher and an ELL teacher at the elementary level, and a Japanese language teacher and ELL teacher at the secondary level. Her love of teaching, languages, and travel has enabled her to take her career overseas twice. For six years she lived in Nagoya, Japan where she taught English and was Foreign Staff Manager in a language school. She also lived in São Paulo, Brazil for five years where she worked as an elementary classroom teacher in an international school. Having had a variety of language learning and cultural immersion experiences, Corrine has a unique understanding of the challenges and rewards of living in another country. Now, as District Coordinator, she works closely with teachers, international students, and their families to facilitate positive, fulfilling, and successful educational experiences in Delta.

    Kerstin looks for a homestay that is flexible, inviting, vibrant and nurturing. She has many families who have provided homestay for a number of years and works in close contact with them to find the right student to match their household. Kerstin truly believes in the value of the international student experience. She was one herself while in University, studying poetry in Wales, U.K. The friendships she made then continue to this day around the world.

    Teri Gallant is the Homestay Coordinator for the Ladner area. Her years of work in the travel industry have taken her to many exciting countries and she always looks forward to sharing the Delta experience with international students. Teri has an Education Degree and a diploma as a teacher of the visually impaired.

    Gillian has been with the Delta School District since 2009. Her background includes a degree in psychology and a certificate in teaching English as a second language. Having advised high school students on their post secondary options, she understands how stressful it can be to face new situations. Her interest in other cultures has led her not just to travel, but to participate in overseas volunteering. She is committed to making warm connections between international students and host families.

    Tania Hope is a Homestay Coordinator in North Delta. Previously she has been with Delta School District for four years as an Education Assistant. Tania has enjoyed working with students from all age groups and abilities. Tania loves going on adventures from camping, hiking and canoeing. She has lived in Delta for 18 years and still likes being a tourist in her home town. As a Homestay Coordinator, she will be able to share her interests with international students and local families.

    Laura is our Chinese-speaking multi-cultural worker in the International Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, agents, students and our schools. Coming to Canada in 2002, as an international student herself, having a business degree from SFU, and being a permanent resident of Canada now, Laura considers Canada as her second home, and she deeply understands the challenges faced by international students. Laura has worked in international education for over four years and is familiar with the secondary and post-secondary education system in Canada. She can give students advice on their graduation plans and university applications. Laura relates to international students, is always patient to listen to their needs and concerns, and wants every student to feel welcomed and supported.

    Akane is our Japanese speaking multi-cultural worker in the International Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, agents, students and our schools. Akane first came to Canada in 1999 on an exchange program through Ritsumeikan University in Japan and UBC. During this time she developed a passion for cross-cultural communication and cooperation. Since then she has worked as a language instructor in both Japan and Canada. Akane has a good understanding of the challenges that international students face in Canada, and wants to support their success in the Delta International Program.

    Elaine is our Korean-speaking multi-cultural worker in the International Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, students, and our schools. She aims to assist students to become global leaders who give back to society and she holds seminars to inform parents about the Canadian education system. Elaine has a Masters in Business Administration and has worked to help international students successfully transition to their new communities with academic and personal success. For over a decade she has also been serving as an educational consultant who specializes in university admissions, both locally and internationally.

    Tiana is our Vietnamese-speaking multicultural worker in the International Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, agents, students and our schools. Tiana became a Canadian citizen in 2009 so she has a lot of experience regarding the adaptation to a new life in Canada. She also has a good understanding of all of the challenges new international students may face. With many years of teaching experience in Vietnam and a diploma in Technical Education, Tiana is willing to listen, understand, and provide her help and advice to the students and their parents. In this way she will do her best to help support Delta’s International Program.

    Carolyn has worked on the front line in both the hospitality industry and in education. She enjoys travelling and has visited Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Europe and the Pacific region and she has lived in England and Australia. Carolyn wants to make everyone feel welcome and help them enjoy their experience in Canada as much as possible.

    April is the newest addition to the Delta School Board International Programs and has been working for the Delta School District for 12 years in many of our high schools and elementary schools and programs. April is excited to be working with ISP and meeting students and their families from all around the world! April has spent the last 6 years working for Learning Services - Inclusive Learning. While there she was the support person for all of the itinerant staff and coordinators that work with the schools and help make learning for our special needs children as smooth and comfortable as possible. As well, April took care of the assisted technology and transportation for our special needs students. April is very friendly and enjoys people and getting to know them. In her spare time she works out, loves Zumba classes and dancing! She loves latin music.

    I am very excited to join International Programs as Intermediate Accountant. I have been working for Delta School District for 10 years as Intermediate Accountant. I was born in Cape Town, South Africa and moved to Canada in 1995. I have been very fortunate to visit various places such as Japan, Hong Kong, Bali, New York, Portugal, Jamaica and looking forward to lots more travel in the future. I like to volunteer and enjoy spending family time with my son and daughter in Victoria, going for walks in and around Vancouver, road trips, camping and dragon boat racing.

    Charmaine brings over 17 years’ experience in student records and admissions. Charmaine enjoys traveling and has visited Germany, Austria, Mexico and Bermuda. Charmaine is a proud resident of South Delta and is excited to welcome the international community to Delta.
