    Deirdre has been an educator for over 30 years as a teacher, counselor, coordinator, and principal in International Education, Multicultural and English Elementary/Secondary Programs. She holds a Bachelor degree in Education from UBC, a Master's degree in Leadership and Administration from the University of Victoria, and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Simon Fraser University. Deirdre has traveled extensively, giving workshops and seminars to overseas educators and parents on the unique aspects of Canadian education. The Delta School District has a stellar international reputation for its academic programs, for inspiring leadership and global awareness, and for developing a strong sense of community and social responsibility in its students. Deirdre is committed to providing a high quality international program which will enable students to learn English and graduate with the opportunity to further their dreams and become dynamic and productive global citizens. Our team in International Student Programs provides personal and caring attention for each child, and we are excited to share in the success of all our outstanding graduates as they move on to university and other exciting challenges.

    Karen began her teaching career in 1998 in Delta and has taught a variety of subjects including Advanced Placement English, Social Studies, and History. Most recently, she was Counselling Department Head and Coordinator of Inquiry at North Delta Secondary School. Karen has a Bachelors degree in Education and a Masters of Education Degree in Counselling Psychology, both from the University of Victoria. Her varied interests include a love of travel. A resident of Delta herself, Karen is proud of all that the community has to offer. She also takes pride in the Delta School District and the opportunities it offers students to grow not only academically, but in areas such as the arts, athletics, leadership, service, and social and global awareness and responsibility. Karen is a caring and enthusiastic educator who looks forward to supporting international students as they develop into tomorrow's successful and responsible citizens, scholars and leaders.

    Lynedah has been in Education since 1990. She began her career as a classroom teacher and then moved into Special Education and ELL. During her time as a specialist she has had the opportunity to work as a Department Head, Pro D committee chair, Pro D presenter and Mentoring Teacher. For 9 years she took the opportunity to continue her learning and teaching in international schools in Beijing, China, Yokohama, Japan, Jakarta Indonesia and Doha, Qatar. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from UBC, a Masters degree in Special Education, Diplomas in both Special Education and ELL and is currently working on a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. Lynedah is committed to providing support to the International Program by enabling students, teachers and the community to be a part of developing the global citizens that will lead us in the future.

    Israel Aucca is the marketing manager for international programs. He has been working in the education sector for more than 15 years. He has experience working overseas in Asia and South America, as well as in Canada, as a teacher, counsellor, coordinator, and also as an education-marketing specialist. Israel has an extensive knowledge of developing current marketing strategies for the education sector. As a fluent speaker in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese he understands different cultures. Israel is always available to assist and welcome educational agents as well as educational partners. He can also guide new students and parents.

    Corrine first became interested in languages and cultures when she participated in a summer exchange program to Japan as a high school student. She became a teacher in 1991, completing her B.Ed and M.Ed at UBC. She has been a learning assistance teacher and an ELL teacher at the elementary level, and a Japanese language teacher and ELL teacher at the secondary level. Her love of teaching, languages, and travel has enabled her to take her career overseas twice. For six years she lived in Nagoya, Japan where she taught English and was Foreign Staff Manager in a language school. She also lived in São Paulo, Brazil for five years where she worked as an elementary classroom teacher in an international school. Having had a variety of language learning and cultural immersion experiences, Corrine has a unique understanding of the challenges and rewards of living in another country. Now, as District Coordinator, she works closely with teachers, international students, and their families to facilitate positive, fulfilling, and successful educational experiences in Delta.

    Kerstin looks for a homestay that is flexible, inviting, vibrant and nurturing. She has many families who have provided homestay for a number of years and works in close contact with them to find the right student to match their household. Kerstin truly believes in the value of the international student experience. She was one herself while in University, studying poetry in Wales, U.K. The friendships she made then continue to this day around the world.

    Teri Gallant is the Homestay Coordinator for the Tsawwassen and Ladner area. Her years of work in the travel industry have taken her to many exciting countries and she always looks forward to sharing the Delta experience with international students. Teri has an Education Degree and a diploma as a teacher of the visually impaired.

    Gillian has been with the Delta School District since 2009. Her background includes a degree in psychology and a certificate in teaching English as a second language. Having advised high school students on their post secondary options, she understands how stressful it can be to face new situations. Her interest in other cultures has led her not just to travel, but to participate in overseas volunteering. She is committed to making warm connections between international students and host families.

    Tania Hope is a Homestay Coordinator in North Delta. Previously she has been with Delta School District for four years as an Education Assistant. Tania has enjoyed working with students from all age groups and abilities. Tania loves going on adventures from camping, hiking and canoeing. She has lived in Delta for 18 years and still likes being a tourist in her home town. As a Homestay Coordinator, she will be able to share her interests with international students and local families.

    Lily is our Chinese-speaking multi-cultural worker in the international Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, agents, students and our schools. She came to Canada in 2006 as a new immigrant. She understands challenges new-comers are facing when they move to a brand new country and try to settle down. Lily has a general English degree from China. She also went to BCIT for a MOA certificate and Delta Manor Education Centre for an Education Assistant certificate. Before Lily came to Canada, she had been teaching English and Mandarin at a language school for seven years. After moving to Canada, Lily fell in love with the richness of multi-culture in the lower mainland of B. C. She also is a very active volunteer for the city of Surrey and she thinks volunteering is such a great way to experience life and help people in our community. Lily had been an Education Assistant for Delta School District for a year. She is always patient, willing to listen and help. she wants everyone to be welcomed, included and supported.

    Akane is our Japanese speaking multi-cultural worker in the International Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, agents, students and our schools. Akane first came to Canada in 1999 on an exchange program through Ritsumeikan University in Japan and UBC. During this time she developed a passion for cross-cultural communication and cooperation. Since then she has worked as a language instructor in both Japan and Canada. Akane has a good understanding of the challenges that international students face in Canada, and wants to support their success in the Delta International Program.

    Elaine is our Korean-speaking multi-cultural worker in the International Student Program. She acts as a liaison between the parents, students, and our schools. She aims to assist students to become global leaders who give back to society and she holds seminars to inform parents about the Canadian education system. Elaine has a Masters in Business Administration and has worked to help international students successfully transition to their new communities with academic and personal success. For over a decade she has also been serving as an educational consultant who specializes in university admissions, both locally and internationally.

    Carolyn has worked on the front line in both the hospitality industry and in education. She enjoys travelling and has visited Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Europe and the Pacific region and she has lived in England and Australia. Carolyn wants to make everyone feel welcome and help them enjoy their experience in Canada as much as possible.

    Nicholas is very excited to be joining the team in International Student Programs, as he is a graduate from Holly Elementary School and Delta Secondary School.  He brings with him a variety of experience beyond his professional accounting designation, including four years in public practice accounting firms, one year in co-operative housing property management, and five years as the Treasurer of the Ladner Soccer Club.  His favourite international travelling experience was the three months he spent backpacking throughout Europe, visiting over ten countries.

    Pam has worked in the Delta School District for 10 years. During this time, Pam has been Head Secretary at Chalmers Elementary in Delta, for 5 years assisting teachers, parents and students from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Prior to Head Secretary, she worked with student records in various elementary schools. She also has worked at the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism in Delta, for 4 years, providing service to children with special needs, in schools throughout British Columbia. Pam is very social and enjoys working with children of all cultures. Pam is very friendly and enjoys providing service and assistance to children and adults from every walk of life.

    Charmaine brings over 17 years’ experience in student records and admissions. Charmaine enjoys traveling and has visited Germany, Austria, Mexico and Bermuda. Charmaine is a proud resident of South Delta and is excited to welcome the international community to Delta.
